Member Emerita and all-around influential woman Annabel Hartman passed away on December 30, 2016 at the age of 101. She touched thousands of people in her life, and we are extremely grateful for the time and effort she spent with the Gemmer Family Foundation over these many years. A memorial service has been scheduled for Saturday, January 28 at 2:00 PM at North United Methodist Church in Indianapolis, 3308 N Meridian St. A reception will follow. Please come if you can to share your stories and memories of Annabel. We would love to see you there.
The Gemmer Foundation board met June 4 at its usual location. We have sent our grant award letters, and if you were among the lucky ones, congratulations! Of note, two-thirds of our grant requests were submitted through our online form. Please keep it up! Our fall meeting is coming in just four months. Send your grant requests via our online form or to our post office box by November 1st!
Additionally, you may be aware of the Open For Service initiative started last year in Indianapolis. We are proud to display one of their emblems, signifying that we do not discriminate against anyone for any reason.

On Wednesday, December 2, Reverend Harold Watkins passed away from cancer. Hal, as he liked to be called, was a retired Disciples minister, President Emeritus of the Disciples Church Extension Fund, and former member of the Gemmer Family Foundation and its finance committee. You can see him in the photograph above from 2013, on the right side in the front row. Calling will be on Tuesday, December 15 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Geist Christian Church, Mud Creek Campus at 8550 Mud Creek Rd, Indianapolis. A memorial service will be held the following day, Wednesday, December 16 at 11:00 a.m. in the same location. Messages of care may be sent to Hal's wife, Evelyn, and adult children, Nancy and Mark of Indianapolis. The Foundation's thoughts are with the Watkins family.
